A New Ploy For More Bureaucracy

As predicted from day 1, every single one of the environmentalist agenda’s wildest dreams will start being enacted under the guise of the Obama administration’s new-found crisis – the deepwater horizon oil spill. In a conspicuously timed report, we have a new estimate as to how much oil is gushing out of what is left of the opening to the oil rig. The Washington Times says estimates of up to 2.52 million gallons a day are gushing into the pristine gulf environment, which is now largely mired in thousands of square miles of surface sludge, and there’s still not much of an end in sight for the ailing local communities.
One of the biggest things that this president is trying to do is convey empathy to the people in the gulf. Somehow he needs to convince them that he knows what they are going through while ignoring the fact that it took him eight days to do anything following the initial explosion. He recapped the opening week in the speech tonight to give the impression that he was in control and had been there overseeing all of federal response effort from day one. One problem – he wasn’t there until day eight. The only one he could possibly fool on that is someone who was in another universe for the last 2 months. Do anyone honestly think a phony commission is going to solve any problem right now? We still have oil gushing! You can’t come out and say that you are trying to assume and take responsibility all the while passing blame on everyone else but yourself.
The president also used the moment to make a renewed pitch for climate legislation. He praised the bill passed in the House of Representatives last summer. If that wasn’t bad enough he went on to take credit for the bill saying that he had laid out that plan himself during the campaign, almost like he was trying to say that bill would have stopped the explosion. We also supposedly need to take the most heavily regulated industry in this country and regulate it further with one disclaimer: New Regulations may not be sufficient – meaning we may need even more after that. How is the solution to a failure in government to act always lead to more government? Where is the justification for such inept logic?
It’s time to breakdown exactly what the president offered for a solution, which I understand if you can’t find it because you have to filter through mountains of fluff to find his overall message. We have:
- BP Expected to Compensate Victims for Damage
Okay, point taken but that’s a consensus anyway and in no way excuses you from the week that went by without any kind of acknowledgment from your office.
- Move toward a more progressive energy policy
This is a really incredible point because of the blatant disregard for reality. He also made the point that we as a country use up 20 percent of the world’s oil resources but only supply 2 percent of it. In doing so he linked that claim to the idea that we’re being forced offshore because the are no other sources of oil for us. In a speech like this, it’s hard to differentiate which lies as more blatant than others but this one was particularly outrageous. We are forced offshore because of the environmental movement. We’ve been blocked onshore. We’ve been blocked in shallow water. Where else do you expect us to go?! This whole situation was a ticking time bomb courtesy of the environmental movement, who should really be forced to admit that activism has done more harm than good and it plays a major role in why we are in this predicament today.
Other than that there was nothing important or even remotely substantive to highlight. The speech wasn’t even satisfactory for many on the left receiving criticism from many prominent liberal personalities. All is well for the king in the end though. Obama will get exactly what he wanted – more power and more government. There were no solutions offered, it was all talk of the most spineless and cowardly degrees. Politics to the left is no longer a game, it’s a way of life – one that could be the end of America as we know it and as our founders knew it.
